Tootsie Roll Mischief

Matty is supposed to take a nap every afternoon.  Lately, he's used his time to get into all kinds of mischief in his room.  The rule is that he is to stay in his bed until nap time is over, but he's been finding ways to get out without me catching him.  Whenever I peek in, he's always back in bed! 

The other day, I heard lots of giggling and actually spotted him in the hallway.  When I went upstairs, I found he was creating a little tootsie roll tower in the hallway.  I found the rest in his bed awaiting transport.  He had found a little tootsie roll bank filled with tootsie rolls that we had bought from a neighbor maybe 2 years ago??  I had mistakenly put it in his room and totally forgot about it. He unwrapped every single one and put most of the wrappers in his hamper.  He was one busy little boy.  At least he didn't sit there and eat them all!

Birds Eye View

Matty and Juliet were having lots of fun playing with Daddy.  Here's a birds eye view of them playing "Cheese Tower" on Daddy's phone.  There are all taking turns--great job sharing! 

Juliet Milestone Update: Words and Climbing

Juliet has been one busy bunny lately.  She is fast outgrowing her baby status (sniff, sniff) and ready to explore everything she can get her hands on.  Today, she successfully figured out how to climb the stairs.  (Cheered on by her big brother, no less).  She made it to stair #2 before I rescued her, she was halfway up to stair #3, though.  Watch out!

Still no first steps, but she's getting close. 

Anyone who has called our house can tell that Juliet is a talker.  She is constantly making noise and sounds.  Some new words she said lately:  Bubble and Ball.  She loves saying Hi, Yea, Dada, and MAMA!! 

Juliet's Crawling Technique

Juliet has settled on a rather cute crawling method.  Sure, she can crawl the "standard" method, but she's found a way that is much faster.  She uses her left leg and right arm to propel her forward, combined with the minimal friction against the hardwood floor, and she is one fast lady!

Juliet had her special green shamrock outfit on for St. Patrick's Day!  The outfit was complete with green shamrock barrettes made by Mommy!

Good Read

Matty was so tired during his nap time that he actually fell asleep with the book on his face!  Can you see him underneath there?

Here he is snoozing away.  He's really enjoying The Lorax.  We wanted to read the book before going to see the movie!

Bad Mommy

Matty had been having some episodes at night where he would wake up crying that his feet hurt.  It didn't happen every night, but when it did he was always really, genuinely upset and he would just keep saying his feet hurt.  The only pattern we could find was that it usually happened after a day where he did a lot of running around.  In the morning, he would be fine.  We even asked the doctor at his three year check up and everything looked fine with his feet and legs.  Then, one day he casually mentioned (as we were running out the door) that every time I put his sneakers on his feet hurt.  Uh oh.  When I got him new sneakers three days later (terrible, I know), we put them on and he was so excited "These don't hurt my feet!".  Followed by him jumping and showing me, "Look, I can dance in these shoes!"  Matty was ecstatic, Mommy felt horrible.

Sorry, Matty--I'll make sure we don't cram your feet into too-small sneakers anymore!!  

Note:  We have not had any feet hurting in the middle of the night since we switched shoes.

The Cliff of Doom

It's fun to watch how Matty sets up his toys and creates his own games.  While I was running up and down the stairs putting laundry away, Matty was busy setting up his train tracks.  I call this arrangement the Cliff of Doom.  He was having a great time:

Bathroom Dinosaur Cups

After Matty brushes his teeth, he usually likes to have a small drink of water.  So, I thought I had the brilliant idea of buying the little bathroom cups and even got the cool dinosaur ones.  Not such a good idea.  Matty absolutely loved these little cups and was quickly taken with the idea of filling up the cups and drinking lots of water.  While I was distracted answering the phone, Matty got to work and had a grand old time with the new bathroom cups.  He even found the place where I stored the box and pulled out more. 

Time the bathroom cup idea lasted before Mommy took them all away:  39 hours.  <sigh>

Juliet loves crawling around and exploring! Will today be the day that she takes her first steps or gets her teeth in all the way??  Fingers crossed!!

Too Busy Playing to Cooperate

JULIET'S FIRST TOOTH!!!

It's a miracle!  Ok, well, not a miracle -- it was bound to happen -- but finally, after 10 1/2 months, Juliet has 2 little teeth poking through on the bottom of her mouth.  Her very first teeth!  Hooray!! 

Now, if only we could figure out what to do with this mess of hair.....
